The Depot is now accepting applications from incoming Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors at DHS (or any private school in the area) who are interested in serving on our Student Governing Board (SGB) in the 2023/2024 school year. 

Why SGB:

Leadership Development: SGB will provide opportunities for students to develop and enhance their leadership skills. Serving in a leadership role can help students learn how to make decisions, manage conflicts, and work effectively with others.

Personal Growth: Being a part of SGB can lead to personal growth and self-discovery. It can boost a student’s confidence, help you figure out strengths and weaknesses, and teach you how to overcome challenges.

Resume Building: Involvement in SGB looks impressive on a resume and college applications. Schools value a candidate who has demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and the ability to take on responsibilities outside of their normal coursework.

Advocacy and Representation: SGB will often serve as the “voice” for the students at the Depot. By participating, your voice will be heard when it comes to fundraising events and high-school led events happening at the Depot.

Learning and Governance: being a member of SGB will allow a student to gain insight into how organizations are run, how decisions are made, and how policies are developed and implemented. This information can be valuable in many aspects of life outside of the Depot.

If selected, SGB members will commit to the following:

– Attending weekly meetings every Wednesday night from 7:30pm to 8:30pm from October-May. Any student with 3 unexcused absences will automatically forfeit their spot on the board.

– Committing to 10 or more mandatory hours of community service to The Depot each semester (20 hours over the school year).

There are 10 spots available for freshmen, 10 spots for sophomores, and a more limited number for juniors. Applications are due by Friday, September 18th and will be (blindly) selected by the SGB executive board with candidates notified by September 26th.
